An inscription on the obverse of this dirham proclaims the tawhid, the declaration of the oneness of God. Encircling it are two margins – the inner bears verse 4-5:30 of the Qur’an, while the outer ring of text indicates that the coin was minted in Bukhara in the year A.H. 373. On its reverse, the coin bears an inscription naming the Samanid sultan Nuh Ibn Mansur and the Abbasid caliph al-Taliʿ lilllah during whose reigns the coin was issued. In the margin are verses 33:9 and 9:61 from the Qur’an.
