Vase with Molded Diamond Pattern

The diamond pattern that covers the surface of this mold-blown vase can be found on glass objects from the eleventh to thirteenth centuries. This pattern was formed by partially blowing the glass into a dip mold before removing it for further expansion, resulting in a soft and slightly irregular pattern. The short, gently flaring neck of the vessel was shaped after its spherical body was fully formed. The surface of the glass is iridescent due to the qualities of the soil in which it was buried for many years.
