An Arms Workshop
Unknown
mid-16th century · Ink, opaque watercolor, and gold on paper · Islamic Art

Scenes from daily life are unusual in Persian miniatures. This one, showing the making of arms, primarily bows and swords, gives a rare insight into the craft in Safavid Iran. The setting has been simplified so as not to distract from the figures and the various tasks, which the artist has set forth with great care and precision.
