Bizhan's envious companion, Gurgin, suggests they attend a festival near Irman but over the border, in Turan, and abduct the prettiest girls. Bizhan enters a grove alone to spy on the girls, but Manizha, the daughter of Afrasiyab, notices him and sends her maid to learn all she can about him. When the maid reports that Bizhan has told her, Manizha invites him to her tent.
