Star-Shaped Tile Fragment — Unknown

With the Mongol conquest of Iran Chinese design merged with Persian techniques of polychrome glazed tiles. A phoenix is painted on a blue ground, coloured with lapis lazuli (lajvardina), which gave the name of that ware. The body and the feathers, and some of the clouds are covered with cut gold leaves.
