Textile Fragment with Horses
Unknown
7th–9th century · Wool, cotton; taqueté · Islamic Art

This textile’s double pearl border and stylized horses with neck ribbons recall early Sasanian types. Although this fragment does not include an inscription, a number of similar examples feature kufic in their borders. The date of the textile offers good evidence for the continued production of a wide range of textiles into the early Islamic period, as weavers continued to draw on older motifs and iconographies.
