Lining of a Cap

These paper fragments arrived at the Museum as the inner lining of a silk cap (46.156.11a). The much evident folded lines are most likely related to this use. While the textile of the cap is attributed to Seljuq Iran, the style of the inscriptions on these paper fragments is similar to Ayyubid, late Fatimid or early Mamluk cursive scripts.
