Miniature Glass Bottle
Unknown
9th century · Glass, greenish; blown · Islamic Art

No direct evidence for the production of glass was revealed during the Nishapur excavations, although we assume that glass objects were in fact made in Nishapur, especially the utilitarian vessels found in quantity in the Sabz Pushan neighborhood. Miniature bottles like this have been found in large numbers in many excavations. Originally they may have been closed with stoppers made of soft materials that no longer survive, and used to hold liquids or powders.
