Bowl
Unknown
10th century · Earthenware; white slip with polychrome slip decoration under transparent glaze · Islamic Art

This bowl exhibits the same brilliant white ground and restraint of decoration as the fine inscriptional pieces from Nishapur. The somewhat daring compositional device of a band-–commonly featuring an inscription, but seen here with abstract decoration—proceeding across the center from edge to edge is also seen in other Nishapur wares.
