Later Iranian metalwork, such as this brass plate with a six-pointed star (or hexagram) in the center, attests to the continued use of this motif as a form of ornament. Other overlapping geometric shapes form a scalloped rosette on the interior of the plate. These are punctuated by standing and seated figures. The rim consists of a pattern of elaborate openwork that adds variety to the overall design. The combination of large geometric forms filled with vegetal, floral, and figural designs and the intricate openwork of the rim is characteristic of later Iranian metalwork.
