Column Fragment — Unknown

Carved stucco and brickwork were the primary architectural decorations in Iran before tilework gained popularity in the thirteenth century. Similar examples of carved stucco decoration often show traces of paint, and this column once may have been painted. The band of inscription in the top register is in the characteristic kufic script of the period.
