Vivid color and fine brushwork are seen in this scene of leisure. Noblewomen sit on a terrace surrounded by luxurious textiles, objects, and sweetmeats with attendants ready on hand. In some ways the style is somewhat of a throwback to the Jahangir period when such scenes first became popular. However, the figure style and the unresolved architecture indicate that this painting was made in the 18th century when the Mughal style was in an especially romantic phase.
