Fragment of a Hanging with Haloed Figure — Unknown

Egyptian linen, considered the finest in the Byzantine Empire, was imported all across Europe, especially where flax was not easily grown. This work is resist-dyed, meaning that the image was drawn in melted wax, which then resisted the dye used to color the background.
