Later Fatimid art is characterized by the increased use of relatively naturalistic human and animal motifs. The pattern of antelopes, flying eagles, and griffins on this wooden panel demonstrates that tendency. Similar motifs can also be found in other mediums, such as the luster-painted pottery of the period.
