Hat
Unknown
probably 5th–8th century · Wool · Islamic Art

Although frequently found in cemeteries, hats such as this example, are rarely recognizably depicted and thus their use is poorly understood. The bag-shaped hats are probably earlier than the tapered examples. The hat is worked in the sprang technique, which produced expandable networks.
