Tile Fragment of a Garden Scene Panel — Unknown

This tile, painted and glazed in cuerda seca over white slip, was once an element of a larger garden scene panel. These panels were used to decorate secular buildings in Isfahan and elsewhere. The young man’s tilted head and the palette and composition of the background are typical of Safavid tiles in this technique.
