While fragmentary, this textile comprises two full loom widths that have been joined in the center. The ogival design was one of the most popular in Ottoman textiles, and seems to have been a favorite choice for velvets. This example is particularly opulent, utilizing golden metal-wrapped threads that glitter against the dark red velvet ground. Flowering vines fill the bands, framing elaborate floral forms containing carnations and tulips, executed in silver, blue, and red.
