Fragment of a Hanging with Birds and Flowers — Unknown

This delicate linen is decorated with a trellis pattern of buds joined at points of intersection by open flowers. Animated green birds fill the center of each diamond. Flowers and birds were popular symbols of abundance, the use of which continued from the classical world into later Byzantine and Islamic art
