Textile Fragment

4th century · Wool, linen; plain weave, tapestry weave, weft loop weave · Islamic Art

The looped weft borders surrounding the central composition of dancing figures give this piece a three-dimensional quality. The accentuated length of the loops allows for a close examination of these threads and how they were spun. We have learned there is great variation in the diameter of the threads.
