Fragment of a Cover or Blanket with Interlace Square — Unknown

The rich purple color of this fragment is due to the use of a highly prized murex (shellfish) dye. The use of this dye was a controlled privilege. This purple was imitated, with varying success, by overdying more common colors. The loop pile seen here was created using a supplemental weft thread.
