Saint Julian — Taddeo Gaddi

A nobleman of the ninth century, Saint Julian is shown holding the sword with which he accidentally slew his parents. This cut-down but otherwise well-preserved picture is from a triptych for a church in Florence (Santa Maria della Croce al Tempio). Taddeo was among Giotto's most prolific and inventive pupils.
