Pair of Stirrups

This shape of stirrups, with their square footplates and their wide flaring sides, is found in most of the Islamic world. This pair is decorated with brass damascened geometric designs and dots of silver inlays. The now empty sockets were originally inlaid with turquoise stones, all lost except a very small fragment. This rich decoration is inspired from traditional Syrian jewelry, often combining silver and turquoise.
