The title refers to the quotation by Herodotus which is inscribed on the 8th Avenue facade of the General Post Office in New York City: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds", see: Morse 1969, p. 337.
