For Max and Gaby’s Alphabet, Fitzpatrick created twenty-six etchings, each corresponding to a single letter of the alphabet. Inspired by suggestions made by his children, Max and Gaby, Fitzpatrick filled each page with multiple objects or figures that begin with each letter. "A," for instance, contains the form of an atom in the center, below which is a small atomic-bomb cloud, while above is a rocket presumably carrying an astronaut into space, perhaps representing both positive and negative potentials of this discovery. The prints use bold, contrasting colors and combine playful forms that make reference to myriad subjects including superheroes, fantastical animals, comics, both science and science fiction, and everyday life. With experience in writing, tattooing, printmaking, and working in numerous other art forms, Fitzpatrick provides an abundance of details and witty juxtapositions, and creates a work that appeals to both adults and children.
