Preparatory drawing for Thomas Chippendale's 'Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director'. Published in reverse as plate XXII in the third edition of 1762, but created as early as 1759 according to the Act of Parliament on the print itself. The chair on the left is upholstered in a fabric with a floral pattern. The chair on the right is upholstered in fabric with designs from fables (two birds on tree on the back, and a dog from "Dog and His Shadow" on the seat).
