Oval image based on a painting by Gainsborough, 1768 (National Gallery of Canada). The print was created as a frontispiece for "Letters of the late Ignatius Sancho, an African, in two volumes. To which are prefixed, Memoirs of his Life." First published in 1782, it was reprinted in 1802 and this print comes from that later issue (also see title page of second volume: 17.3.464).
