Wheellock Mechanism for a Pistol

This lock is all that remains of what must have been a magnificent French wheellock pistol. The lock is noteworhty for its predominant use of gilt bronze and for its Renaissance-inspired ornament, including a sculptural female figure that forms the arm of the cock.
