Sir William Butts
Wenceslaus Hollar|Sir William Butts|Adam Alexius Bierling|Hans Holbein the Younger
1649 · Etching, first state of three NH) · Drawings and Prints

Portrait of an elderly man with grey straight hair covering his ears, moustache and beard; bust-length to left; wearing a plumed hat with slashed rim, and fur stole over slashed doublet. According to New Hollstein, the suggestion that the sitter is Henry VIII's doctor, William Butts, is incorrect. However, the sitter resembles Charles Brandon, whose name is inscribed on the British Museum's impression (BM website).
