Charles I and Henrietta Maria
Charles I, King of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland|Henrietta Maria, Queen of England|Wenceslaus Hollar|Anthony van Dyck
1641 · Etching; first state of three (NH , this impression cited) · Drawings and Prints

Hollar etched these portraits of the king and queen of England on a single copper plate. Impressions such as this, showing the royal couple together, are rare; the plate was later cut to create two separate portraits, presumably due to the queen's unpopularity in England. (On this impression, the spelling of her name has been corrected from "Henrica" to "Henrietta" in ink.) .
