A Pilot Whale

This beached creature, though much smaller than the others displayed on this wall, nevertheless attracted a large crowd that is depicted here winding in from the distance along the Dutch dunes. Pilot whales are among the largest oceanic dolphins. Two men use a rope to measure it from head to tail.
