In the early winter of 1932, Picasso made about twenty etchings of women at the beach, similar to a series of paintings he had made the previous summer. Although small in size, the prints possess a vitality that transcends the sheet. Picasso pulled his own proofs and enjoyed experimenting with different effects. He achieved the pebbly line of these frolicking bathers by leaving large bubbles in the acide used to etch the plate.
