This chest epitomizes the Chippendale style: classical architectural forms are dynamically juxtaposed with romantic, naturalistic ornament. On the basis of a 1772 entry in the ledger of William Logan, in whose family the chest descended, it has been attributed to the Scottish immigrant cabinetmaker Thomas Affleck and the carver James Reynolds.
