Veduta del Foro Romano
Eugène Constant
1848–52 · Albumen print from glass negative · Photographs

Constant, who associated with the painter-photographers at the Caffè Greco, was the first in Rome to use the method of albumen on glass plate negatives devised by the Frenchman Niépce de Saint-Victor in 1847. This remarkable album contains thirty prints by Constant, each affixed to a page bearing the blind stamp of the bookseller Edouard Mauche (who sold his views).
