[Two Men Playing Chess] — Alfred Stieglitz

In summer 1907, immediately after being introduced to the Autochrome process by Steichen, Stieglitz used it while on vacation with the photographer Frank Eugene in Bavaria. In this image, his friend Dr. Raab (right) plays chess with another man, perhaps Herr Götz of the Bruckmann printing firm in Munich, who was working on the reproductions of Steichen’s Autochromes for publication in Camera Work.
