Dorothy Marshall Hornblower, a friend of Louis C. Tiffany’s daughters, worked in the Textile Department at Tiffany Studios, creating artistic fabrics for a short time just after the turn of the twentieth century. The colorful pattern of plums and foliage rendered in rich, jewel-tone colors was probably hand-printed onto the fabric using stencils. This particular motif closely relates to an enameled bowl (51.121.29) made at Tiffany Furnaces that is on view in the case to the right, attesting to Tiffany designers’ affinity for drawing creative inspiration from nature for different media. Hornblower credited her supervisor and friend Tiffany with "open[ing] [her] eyes to things of beauty" and teaching her various design skills.
