When Steiner took this remarkable upward view of a skyscraper and its airshaft, his radical vantage point was a novelty in America. (The abstraction and torque of the image were more characteristic of European constructivist artists, in particular László Moholy-Nagy and Alexander Rodchenko.) The print served as a postcard announcement of Steiner's first exhibition, which took place at J.B. Neumann's Fifty-seventh Street gallery in 1926.
