Unknown
late 1st century BCE–early 1st century CE · Glass · Greek and Roman Art

Translucent deep turquoise blue and opaque white, partially mixed together and appearing as green and yellow. Flat, but uneven underside, tapering to one straight edge, with shallow, irregular, tooled ribbing at right angle to edge. Marbled mosaic pattern in green ground with multiple white rods. Chipped edge; polished upper side; pitting of surface bubbles; dulling and creamy weathering on underside and some edges. The glass imitates a costly stone, green porphyry (lapis lacedaemonius).
