late 1st century BCE–early 1st century CE · Glass · Greek and Roman Art

Translucent purple, opaque white and yellow, and colorless. Flat plaque. Marbled mosaic pattern in yellow ground with white, colorless, and fine purple streaks. Chipped edges; polished upper side; pitting of surface bubbles on upper side; dulling, pitting, and creamy weathering on underside and jagged edges; one straight edge ground flat. The marbled pattern deliberately imitates semi-precious stones such as onyx or alabaster.
