Bronze statuette of a lion
Unknown
6th century BCE · Bronze · Greek and Roman Art

The pose and attenuated form of this solid-cast bronze are reminiscent of the monumental stone lions that guard a street at the Greek sanctuary of Apollo on the island of Delos. This lion may once have ornamented a large bronze vessel or brazier and is perhaps a product of Vulci.
