On the handle, Dionysos and two revelers Upper frieze, horse tamer between onlookers and two wrestlers Lower frieze, animal combats between onlookers The aryballos is connected with the gymnasium and the palaistra (exercise ground). After exercising, men used oil to clean and care for their skin. The subjects here refer to major interests of young Athenians—horses, athletics, and symposia (drinking party).
