Steatite scaraboid seal
Unknown
8th century BCE · Steatite · Greek and Roman Art

Flattened scaraboid of green, translucent steatite, perforated horizontally. Two men, in reversed positions, on either side of a large quadruped. The latter has its mouth wide open and is perhaps a lion, for ot has a long, tufted tail; but the long, erect ears (or horns) make the identity uncertain. In the field are other, nondescript animals and ornaments.
