Marble column with base and capital

The capital belongs to the Roman composite order, in which the volutes of the Ionic order are at the top and the rows of acanthus fronds of the Corinthian order are below. This combination gave the capital greater height and, together with the narrow vertical fluting of the column, lent the architecture a graceful and delicate appearance.
