Marble stele (grave marker) of a young girl
Unknown
ca. 440–425 BCE · Marble, Pentelic · Greek and Roman Art

The girl's rather chubby body and the garment worn without a belt suggest a young age. It is interesting to note that of her sandals, only the soles are sculpted; the straps would have been painted. The objects in her hands are probably fruit, specifically pomegranates.
