Obverse, Dionysos and satyr Reverse, Poseidon and Nike Among the artists active during the second quarter of the fifth century B.C., the Syracuse Painter was one of the last to decorate an amphora, a shape that had declined in popularity. The mouth of this example is exceptional for its slightly convex surface.
