"Seltice, Chief of the Coeur d'Alenes" was one of seven portraits of Native Americans that Warner modeled in 1891 while in Oregon. At the time, Seltice, or Andrew Seltis, was in his late fifties. Though his mother was a Spokane, he became the chief of the Coeur d'Alene, or Schitsu’umsh.
