The earliest Renaissance bronze plaquettes were cast after ancient gems. This example, after an intaglio that eventually went with much of the Medici collection of gems to the Museo Archeologico in Naples, still bears the letters LAUR MED, which Lorenzo de'Medici had engraved on his glyptic treasures.
