The dial displays local time, as well as the time in ten other cities. Also indicated are the positions of the sun and moon in the zodiac, the phase of the moon, the age of the moon in its monthly cycle, the day of the week, the day of the month, and the number of days in the month. The clock was originally fitted with a miniature clavier that played mechanically after the striking of the hour.
