Shortly before Rodin’s death, his assistant, Paul Cruet, took a cast of his master’s hand and combined it with a small female torso by Rodin. More a tribute to the great sculptor’s genius than a work of art, this plaster group was a treasured possession of Rodin’s most gifted American student, the New York sculptor Malvina Hoffman.
